PHP session.cookie_domain setting does not work for multiple subdomains

Description

session.cookie_domain = .my.domain.com

does for "first.my.domain.com"

but it does not work for "second.first.my.domain.com"

not a lighttpd issue. at best a php issue. but than we dont care. bugs.php.net might care.

This does work in Apache, wouldn't this be an issue with the way lighttpd is handling cookies?

Sorry if I'm entirely off base here, I just figure out where to start looking.
